Attracts like a magnet
I look at this cake and I long to make it while the vivid combination of the white and red in the picture amazes me a lot. I read once more the ingredients, I count each one of my skills and the chances I have not only to manage the garnish with homemade creations but also to succeed in this sweet attempt. I think of the calories, the inappropriateness of the timing, and I stop. However, the irresistible desire to make something so different for my Greek taste and so beautifully impressive to my Greek eyes wins in me. Let’s...

If you get a present like a jar of red chilies
One winter’s day out of nowhere, a jar full of red chilies was given to me, brought as a small present from the town of Kilkis. I did not expect anything but this vase with the bright red flames was suddenly found in my hands. For a moment I did not know what to say! Because I like cooking a lot, I came quickly to my senses and my instant thought was that I would use them for sure. I like food to have some spices in. Moreover, I am always pleased with a gift because I am sure it...

Blame it on the Bossa Nova
Definitely this great song comes from Eydie Gorme. And it is a super idea to listen to on your birthday accompanied by the delicious Marquise Alice dessert. Do not serve this as your birthday cake before putting Eydie Gorme on youtube. Then bring it in the living room to your guests, dancing softly to the Bossa Nova rhythm. Naturally, if you want to create this chic, creamy, French pie you will meet a small difficulty as I did of course preparing it for the first time! Unless, you are an expert in making sweet desserts with specialization in creams. Even if you had such expertise,...

Father’s favourite soup
One of my father’s favourite soups is Soupa Manestra. A light tomato soup with kritharaki, a small pasta made from semolina wheat, which you enjoy very hot with plenty of pepper, and is delicious even late at night. For some reason, every time we had chicken for lunch, this strange but famous soup made its appearance at our dinner table. I watched my father sipping with such pleasure and definitely asking for a second round and this always drove me crazy! What was it with this red juice that the man adored? I could only see a little pasta here...

Sunday morning, with the grandmothers
Sunday morning at home with the grandmothers as our guests. At 11 o’clock, time for the Greek coffee or a cup of green tea, after the service in the church. Of course, they will stay with us only as long as necessary. Later on, each of them is invited somewhere for lunch and they won’t miss it! The idea for this short visit is to surprise them with a treat to something delicately sweet, unexpected and thoroughly pleasant in appearance! I personally prefer chocolate chestnut truffles accompanied with liqueur of mastiha Chiou and a classic sponge cake, filled with strawberry...
